The Republican Convention

The republican convention that took place today on September 4, 2008 showed McCain trying to become the president of the United States. In his speech today, he said that he started out in the navy for his own freedom, for his own liberty. When he was struck down in Vietnam over Hanoi, he was taken as a Prisoner Of War (P.O.W.). During his time as a P.O.W, his natural rights were taken away, liberty and his pursuit of happiness; but fortunately, they did not take his last natural right away, life. They found out that he was a son of a General and they tried to patch him up as to not cause too much unnecessary conflict with a greater force. As a result of his misuse of his liberties, he decided that he would make sure that he would secure other people's natural rights. In the presidential campaign, each candidate presents parts of those natural rights that they will hopefully improve on. Health care, law enforcement and others. The army policies, taxes, and more are liberty. And finally The pursuit of happiness which includes school, roads, funding, and more.
Right now we are learning about America and how it started, and also to find out what exactly is America as a whole. So I brought up a political convention to show the many aspects that we still use the constitution today. Since we were looking at “Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness / property” by John Locke and Thomas Jefferson. It is interesting that they use stories on how they saw abuse of he natural rights to be able to use that in their campaign slogans. I don't really like McCain's views on stuff such as him taking out the government funded F22, tax benefits, and the war in Iraq. But I like that he served our country in the Vietnam war.
